Semantic Interoperability
Selecting a Common Data Model
Recognizing that syntactic and semantic interoperability is necessary for data sharing and consistent, comparable analyses across pSCANNER’s distributed network sites, we have selected the Observational Medical Outcomes Partnership (OMOP) Common Data Model (CDM) as the common data model for pSCANNER. The OMOP CDM enables modeling and capturing information in the same way at different network sites, e.g., patients, providers, drugs, and procedures. In addition, OMOP has a useful and growing public library of analytical methods for performance measurements. Researchers from a variety of institutions in the United States and Europe contribute to this public library.
All data documentation for the OMOP CDM and its analytic tools is freely available online. Standardized structured query language (SQL) queries are shared in a common open-source repository and updated regularly.
