Research Co-Design Team (Kawasaki Disease) Member Bios

pSCANNER Kawasaki Disease Research Co-Design Team

Funded Study: A Stakeholder-Driven Comparative Effectiveness Study of Treatments to Prevent Coronary Artery Damage in Patients with Resistant Kawasaki Disease

Principal Investigator:

Natural Language Processing

The pSCANNER Natural Language Processing (NLP) working group develops capacity to enable sharing and reuse of vast amounts of valuable health information derived from clinical texts of all pSCANNER participating institutes. Specifically, this involves creating generalizable and scalable NLP tools to extract phenotypes of the three use case conditions (i.e., Congestive Heart Failure, Obesity and Weight Management, and Kawasaki Disease) and store the results as a data warehouse of patient phenotypes in OMOP NLP schema proposed by the OHDSI NLP working group ready to support clinical studies.

Research Co-Design Team (Weight Management) Member Bios

Romona Allen (Koren), Patient Representative: Ms. Koren is a patient stakeholder representing a SAFTNet clinic partner from Colorado.  She has worked for a number of years with the University of Colorado on a diabetes peer support project, is a member of the pSCANNER Stakeholder Advisory Board, and welcomes the opportunity to help other patients in a way that leads to better health.

Research Co-Design Team (Heart Failure) Member Bios

Susan Ammon, Clinician:  Ms. Ammon worked as a nurse practitioner in the General Cardiology and Heart Failure Clinic at the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center. This past November 2016, she retired from her position after 34 years of service but continues to be involved in several heart failure committees/board positions.  She participated in Phase I of pSCANNER on the research prioritization panel for heart failure.

Stakeholder Boards

Stakeholder Advisory Board – Governance: The main objective of pSCANNER’s Stakeholder Advisory Board (SAB) is to provide input and guidance for active, meaningful and consequential participation of stakeholders, including patients, patient advocates, clinicians, researchers and health system administrators, in pSCANNER activities.  SAB member biographies are available here
